Subject: Digital Nomad Residency & Remote Work Access Act

Effective Immediately

To promote innovation, attract high-value tourism, support knowledge-based economic growth, and establish the Dominican Republic as a global hub for remote professionals, this decree launches a dedicated Digital Nomad Residency Program.


Article 1 – Creation of the Digital Nomad Residency Visa

  1. A new visa class, the “Digital Nomad Residency”, is hereby established for foreign individuals who:
    • Work remotely for companies or clients outside the Dominican Republic
    • Are self-employed or freelance digital professionals
    • Earn verifiable income online
  2. The visa grants residency status for 2 years, renewable for up to 10 years.

Article 2 – Application Requirements

  1. Applicants must provide:
    • Proof of remote employment or self-employment
    • Minimum annual income of US$18,000 or RD$1,000,000
    • Valid passport
    • RepublicaID enrollment (digital national ID)
    • Clean criminal record
    • Health insurance valid in the Dominican Republic
  2. Applications will be processed via the RepublicaVisas portal, with a maximum turnaround time of 30 business days.

Article 3 – Residency Benefits

Digital Nomad Visa holders will have:

  • Legal residency status
  • Access to RepúblicaPay (digital wallet system)
  • Access to public transportation and national Wi-Fi zones
  • Permission to rent property, lease coworking spaces, and use local banking
  • Tax-free status on foreign income

Article 4 – One-Time Visa Fee

  1. Applicants must pay a one-time application fee of RD$12,500 (approx. US$425).
  2. No additional monthly or annual fees are required for active holders.

Article 5 – Code of Conduct and Termination

  1. Visas may be revoked if:
    • The individual works for a Dominican company without a separate permit
    • Criminal activity or visa fraud occurs
    • Residence is abandoned for more than 12 consecutive months
  2. A 60-day grace period will be granted to resolve issues before automatic termination.

Article 6 – Promotion and Global Partnerships

  1. A national campaign, “Work From Paradise”, will promote the program through:
    • Dominican embassies
    • Global tech events and remote work platforms
    • Tourism and economic development boards
  2. Coworking hubs and tech centers will be incentivized to offer Digital Nomad Welcome Packages with local perks.

Work remotely. Live legally. Stay as long as you want. The Dominican Republic is now a global destination for productivity, safety, and tropical freedom — where innovation meets island life.
